Yusuf Mufutau

Mufutau Yusuf is a Nigerian-Irish performer, choreographer, and teacher, currently based between Ireland and Belgium. He has worked with companies such as Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez, Liz Roche Company, Irish Modern Dance Theatre, Emma Martin/United Fall, and Pan Pan Theatre. His choreography explores themes identity, ancestry, memory, and the politics of representation, often drawing from personal and collective archives. His most recent work, Impasse (2024), premiered at Dublin Dance Festival and continues to tour internationally to critical acclaim. As resident choreographer with Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company, he created Invocation, which premiered at Dublin Dance Festival 2025. Since 2020, he has received numerous awards and grants, and in 2024 was honored with the Golden Afro Artistic Award in Belgium. In 2025, he was elected to Aosdána, the prestigious affiliation of creative artists supported by the Irish Arts Council. Mufutau also holds an Associate Artist position with Solstice Arts Centre.
During his residency, he will begin to develop a new solo work exploring themes of mortality as both a philosophical inquiry and a lived, bodily experience, entwined with rituals of mourning and the process of grief.
