Paul Nugent
September — October 2004
Visual artist Paul Nugent brings together acts of memory and representation in religious symbolism, re-imagined in a uniquely modern format. Using photographic reproductions of 18th century paintings in art history books, he blends the visual currency of photography and painting and explores the symbolic furnishings of the inter-text. His works have been widely exhibited and form part of public collections at the Office of Public Works, Irish Museum of Modern Arts and Dublin City University, as well as in private collections. Originally from Dublin, the artist continues to work in the city. He also works at the National College of Art and Design as a lecturer of Fine Art Painting.
