Paul Durcan

Paul Durcan is one of Ireland’s most prolific and widely-read poets. Born in 1944, his poetry is a documentary of change and vision in the public and private worlds. His major collections include O Westport in the Light of Asia Minor (1975), The Berlin Wall Café (1985), Daddy, Daddy (1990), Cries of an Irish Caveman: New Poems (2001) and The Art of Life (2004). Seamus Heaney has spoken of his poetry as the "bitter-sweet clowning" crafted to the truth slant. He is a member of Aosdána and the recipient of numerous accolades ranging from The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award to the Irish American Cultural Institute Poetry Award, Whitbread Poetry Award and the Heinemann Award. He is currently the Poet-in-Residence at the CCI.
