Pat Walker and Joe Walker

October 2024

Walker Walker crédit Ros Kavanagh

Artists Pat Walker and Joe Walker began collaborating as Walker and Walker in 1989. They co-represented Ireland at the 51st International Venice Biennale in 2005 and have exhibited widely nationally and internationally. Their most recent solo exhibition was ‘Threshold’ in 2021 at Madonna Del Pozzo, during The Festival dei Due Mondi, Italy. Other shows were at Artspace Boan1942 and Thomas Park Gallery, in Seoul, South Korea; Salzburger Kunstverein, Austria; Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro; Galleria Civica di Modena, Italy; Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane and The RHA Gallery, Dublin; Christopher Grimes Gallery LA and Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery, Reno, USA.

During their residency at the Centre Culturel Irlandais, Walker and Walker wish to develop a film script based on a particular concept derived from the Situationist International (SI), of ‘Détournement’ - French for "rerouting" or “hijacking”. They will also visit the extensive Fourier archive at Museum of Fine Arts and Archeology of Besançon to research the early nineteenth-century utopian writer's condemnation of capitalism, in particular the oppression of women in the domestic home and his ‘Theory of the Four Movements’ a thesis of permanent revolution, “l’ecart absolu” or a “total refusal”.
