Neil Hegarty studied at Trinity College Dublin, where he received a doctoral degree in English Literature. He has co-curated the Belfast Book Festival, is a Director of Irish PEN / PEN na hÉireann, and a regular literary reviewer for The Irish Times. An extensive writer, his novels include The Jewel, described by The Irish Times as ‘a vital novel for our times’, and Inch Levels, shortlisted for the Kerry Group Novel of the Year award and published in French by Gallimard as La surface de l’eau.
During his residency, he intends to conclude a non-fiction project that deals with the life of a city - his home place of Derry – against the backdrop of the Troubles.
