Caitriona O’Reilly is from Wicklow and was educated at Trinity College Dublin, where she completed a PhD on American poetry. Her first book, The Nowhere Birds, was published in 2001. It was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and won the Rooney Prize in Irish Literature in 2002. Her second collection, The Sea Cabinet, was published in 2006. It was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and was shortlisted for the Irish Times Poetry Prize. Her third collection, Geis, also a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, was published in 2015 by Bloodaxe Books (UK) and Wake Forest University Press (USA). During her residency in Paris, she will develop new ideas through engaging with the material culture housed in the Musee National du Moyen Âge, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle and archaeological sections of the Louvre Museum.
