Donegal native and writer in residence at the Centre Culturel Irlandais Moya Cannon studied history and political science in University College Dublin and at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Her first collection of poems Oar (Rame-Salmon 1990) received the Brendan Behan Memorial prize. Her other publications include The Parchment Boat and Carrying the Songs. Her poems have been published in numerous international anthologies and she has been editor of themed editions of Poetry Ireland Review (1995). She is currectly completing a translation project of old Irish traditional songs into modern Irish. She lives in and teaches in Galway.
