Michael McHale - Miniatures and Modulations by Philip Hammond

Michael McHale - Miniatures and Modulations by Philip Hammond

This concert at the Embassy of Ireland celebrates the official launching of support for the CCI by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to reflect our vision of Irish culture as emanating from all 32 counties. Renowned Belfast-born composer Philip Hammond created his Miniatures and Modulations based on Edward Bunting’s collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland (1796). The pieces were commissioned by the 2011 Belfast Festival at Queen’s University for three young Irish pianists, one of whom has travelled specially to Paris to play them tonight. Michael McHale, also from Belfast, has established himself as one of the leading Irish pianists of his generation. He has performed frequently as concerto soloist with the Hallé, Bournemouth Symphony and Moscow Symphony orchestras, the Teatro Colon Orchestra, Discovery Ensemble in Boston, the London Mozart Players and all five of the major Irish orchestras.
