Eamon O’ Kane as artist-in-residence brings Panorama- I like shopping centres and shopping centres like me to Paris. An architectural wooden structure envelopes the panorama and serves as the portal of sight into the world it encompasses. The 30 metre black and white painting is offered in glimpses through alternating spy-holes, in tandem with viewing lens which reflect Paris through the familiar surrounding views of the CCI. The work gestures to Corbusier’s plan for the city and the intrinsic link between modern urban planning and commerce. Playful with illusion, framing and perspective, the artist offers a jolt to the expectations of the viewer.
