This powerful once-off performance in the CCI courtyard is inspired by the story of Soumaila Sacko, an immigrant farmworker killed in 2018 in southern Italy. The Weight denounces the oppression and violence faced by exploited minorities, but is nonetheless full of hope. Carried by the visceral, compelling presence of dancer Erin O'Reilly, the audience witnesses this poignant requiem for human rights, which is also a passionate love letter to Italy.

Based in Ireland, Luca Truffarelli is a renowned photographer and videographer who has been capturing and filming contemporary dance and theatre for many years. Currently in residence at the CCI, he is presenting his first dance creation, choreographed by Oona Doherty and performed by Erin O'Reilly. Around O'Reilly, in a unique 360° installation, French conductor James S. Kahane and fifteen classical musicians play a score based on the original music written by composer Greg Haines. The score is reinterpreted only for this live performance and supported by an immersive soundscape.

From 6:30pm to 8:30pm, a selection of ten short dance films directed by Luca Truffarelli will also be shown.
