7:30pm: Dance performance Ham Sandwiches and Discipline by Nóra Ní Anluain Fay and Ben Sullivan

A NAF production with choreographer and dancer Nóra Ní Anluain Fay, this work was developed in collaboration with Skibbereen GAA club during the summer of 2023. It finds it structure in the myriad of emotions that are stirred up before, during and after matches and is artfully performed by Ben Sullivan and Nóra Ní Anluain Fay.

8:15pm: Screening of Man of Aran with musical accompaniment

The trio Úna Monaghan (harp), Ceri Owen (piano) and Síle Denvir (voice) came together in 2019 to produce a new live soundtrack to the classic Irish documentary Man of Aran for Docs Ireland. The film, made in 1934, is a blend of documentary and fictional narrative by pioneering filmmaker Robert Flaherty, depicting the everyday trials of life on Ireland's unforgiving Aran Islands. The soundtrack is performed live in response to the film, combining harp, electronics, piano and voice. It is largely improvised, with influences and material from Irish traditional music and song, as well as 20th century avant-garde composers including Ligeti and Cage. In keeping with the film, the performance juxtaposes different elements… some fabricated, some imagined and some true.

Don’t miss Una Monaghan’s filmwork And The Goals Will Come devised for harp, bassoon, percussion and hurler, on show in the CCI’s Project Space #3 Sports gaéliques.
