Amitiés littéraires : florilège de la Bibliothèque littéraire Jacques Doucet
On the occasion of the nationwide Journées européennes du patrimoine (JEP), the CCI is delighted to inaugurate a rare exhibition in its Old Library in collaboration with the Bibliothèque littéraire Jacques Doucet (BLJD).
This exhibition presents original editions, letters and portraits relating to four important Irish figures who made their mark on Paris’ artistic and intellectual circles: James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, Francis Bacon and Oscar Wilde. These pieces from the BLJD’s collection offer a personal perspective on each of the artists and include a copy of ‘Ulysses’ signed by James Joyce for Adrienne Monnier, letters exchanged with André Gide, photographs, different items sent by Beckett to Emil Cioran, as well as examples of Francis Bacon and Oscar Wilde’s private correspondence.
An invitation to discover fascinating literary links between Ireland and France, and take the opportunity to visit the BLJD - situated close by to the CCI, at 8 place du Panthéon. During the JEP, don’t miss their special presentation of other aspects of the artists’ socio-literary interactions.
