Originally from rural Ulster, Dean Black is an architectural writer-designer whose work explores the intersection of agricultural landscapes with architecture, ecology, queer studies, and posthumanism.
While at the CCI, Dean will be working on their design-research project ‘Architectures of Abundance’, which seeks to reconceptualise food systems confronted by climate crisis. Their research juxtaposes ‘agri-tech-tures’ of the abattoir and the measurement system of the Irish acre. They will engage with the writings of French philosopher Georges Bataille and archival material from the world’s first public slaughterhouse, La Villette.
