Based in Ireland since the early 2000s, Atsushi Kaga’s paintings incorporate a mixture of western art history, philosophy, Celtic and Japanese references. Influenced by the story-telling cultures of Manga and Anime, Kaga uses a group of invented characters to create a playful and surreal ‘Kagaverse’. Within this alternative and witty universe he confronts serious issues of cultural politics, paranoia, the search for personal identity and the daily philosophical crises of facing the harsh realities of the world.
While in Paris, he will particularly study the works of Henri Matisse, Paul Cézanne and Gustave Moreau.
