Rencontre avec Edna O’Brien

Born in Co. Clare, Edna O'Brien is famous for her rich and sensuous prose often dealing with women's disappointment in love. Her literary breakthrough came with The Country Girls trilogy (1960-64) which, like much of her subsequent work, was critical of the prevailing Catholic and nationalistic moral order in Ireland. Her works have gained wide acclaim and her book of short stories Lantern Slides won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in 1990. O'Brien's novel The Light of Evening was published in 2006 and she will read from her works including Byron in Love, published this year.
