This colloquium seeks to define the challenge that Peter Rice, with his distinctive awareness of construction as a profoundly human activity, offers to engineering and architecture today. At home in London and Paris, with a global reach to such projects as the Menil Collection at Houston and Kansai Airport near Osaka, Rice worked with the leading architects of his time, notably Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. He celebrated qualities of surprise and collaboration when testing the resources of cast-steel, fabric, glass and stone, or exploring natural forms (for example spiders’ webs) as models for innovation in structural design.
Moderators: Antoine Picon (Harvard University) and Seán O Laoire (MÓLA Architecture, Dublin)
This event is open to architectural and engineering professionals.
