BLOOMSDAY Spool presents

Joyce’s Dublin

Joyce’s Dublin

James Joyce’s masterpieces Finnegan’s Wake and Ulysses were of major influence on 20th century literature. However, equally important in his œuvre are A Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man, a semi-autobiographical work that traces the intellectual and religio-philosophical awakening of Stephen Dedalus, and Dubliners a collection of fifteen short stories that, on a symbolic level, deal with universal human nature and transcend the particulars of life in Dublin at the turn of the 20th century.

Celebrate Bloomsday at the CCI as performer Fergus Cronin returns to bring alive the world of James Joyce through readings from Dubliners, Ulysses and A Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man. Historian Catriona Crowe will contextualise the extracts and provide insightful commentary on Joyce’s Dublin and on the publishing history.
