Dublin Youth Orchestra began in 1982 to fulfil the need to give young players a chance to play in an orchestra at a time when there were few opportunities for orchestral playing in Dublin. Since then the organisation has developed to include four orchestras covering the ages of 9 years to young adults of 22 or 23 years, numbering around 350 players with four orchestras. The Concert Orchestra ranges in age from 15 to 17 years.The Concert Orchestra plays a range of music including Faure's 'Pavane', Grieg's 'Peer Gynt' and pieces from the musicals, films and popular Irish pieces. .
