Charlie Piggot plays button accordian. He is a founder member of musical groups De Danann (1974)and The Lonely Stranded Band (1991). Piggott has toured extensively in Europe, Canada and USA and involved in many traditional Irish music recordings. He was invited by the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. to perform at the US Bicentennial Celebrations (1976). His most signature abiltiy is playing button accordian specialising in the "old style". He is co-author of Blooming Meadows: The World of Irish Traditional Musicians (Town House and Country House,1998). He currently works as a post-doctoral Research Fellow in Biochemistry at The National University of Ireland, Galway.
Piggot is joined by Thomas O Nialain farmer, philosopher, story-teller, sean-nos (old style) step dancer, and bodhran player from the Sliabh Aughty Mountains in South Galway. Fiddle player Kevin Carey completes the ensemble for the evening. He developed his love of traditional music with Martin Rochford and Joe Bane, then alongside Martin Hayes and Mary MacNamara. His first CD Suantrai was released in 2001.
