Tim Robinson

Tim Robinson

Tim Robinson is nearing the completion of a forty-year project of mapping and writing about the three celebrated landscapes grouped around Galway Bay: the Aran Islands, the Burren and Connemara. Through art and literature, he now intends to pursue ideas concerning our relationship to the physical universe symbolised by the centre of gravity.

Linda Quinlan

Linda Quinlan

Linda Quinlan's work investigates language and more specifically how we understand physical material through language. She is interested in the possible space that may exist between thinking, making and viewing an art work. She has recently exhibited at Art Geneve, the Bloomberg SPACE in London, in Koln Kunstverin and at the Smart Project Space, Amsterdam.

Andrew Hamilton

Andrew Hamilton

The major focus of award-winning musician and composer Andrew Hamilton’s time at the Centre will be on writing a one-hour opera which has been commissioned by the Ives Ensemble from the Netherlands based on the life of Roger Casement. He will assemble the text himself from Casement’s diaries and the writings of his contemporaries.


Veronica Bolay

Veronica Bolay

Veronica Bolay was born in Germany and moved to Ireland in 1971. She has participated in major group shows in Ireland, Italy and France and had eighteen solo shows in Ireland in recent years. Veronica has received the Fergus O'Ryan Memorial Award from the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Keating McLoughlin Medal and ESB Award as well as the prestigious Liam Walsh Award in 2006. Her work forms part of the major Irish collections. She is a member of the RHA and of Aosdána. During her residency Veronica concentrated on the theme of 'Shelter' and its many-faceted aspects. This is an ongoing concern in her work. The courtyard of the Centre Culturel Irlandais added a new insight due to the social and cultural interactions (past and present) within its space. Manchán Magan

Manchán Magan 

March - May 2012

Manchán Magan is a writer and travel documentary-maker. During his residency he will focus on the first draft of a novel. He will also work on the final draft of a bilingual play commissioned by the Abbey Theatre and finish a film script for a modern-day adaption of Caoineadh Airt Ui Laoghaire which goes into production in June 2012. He has written six books in English and Irish as well as two bilingual plays. He writes the Magan’s World column for the Irish Times. http://www.manchan.com/ 


Judith Ring

Judith Ring

Judith Ring is a composer working mainly in the electro-acoustic domain. She is a co-director of the Sensorium festival which creates diverse evenings of interactive visual, aural and haptic installation work and performances designed to stimulate the senses. Her compositions have been performed throughout Europe and the Americas by ensembles such as Concorde, Percussemble, Trio Scordatura and Bradyworks. The focus of her residency will be to write a five movement string quartet with an electronic part based on sound recordings made in Paris. http://judithring.com/

Donald Teskey

Donald Teskey

Donald Teskey is primarily a landscape painter and in his work he attempts to convey the experience and sense of a place through a sustained exploration of the elements of rural and urban landscape. His work in Paris will be to look at, experience and investigate the environment through drawing and painting. Teskey is a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and of Aosdána. His work has been exhibited in Ireland, UK, Europe, US and China and is held in major collections throughout the world. http://donaldteskey.com/

Mary O’Donnell

Mary O’Donnell

Mary O’Donnell is a novelist and poet. She has published six collections of poetry and her fiction includes Strong Pagans, The Light-Makers, Virgin and the Boy and The Elysium Testament. She co-edited a 2010 anthology of women’s poetry from Galicia, To the Winds Our Sails: Irish Writers Translate Galician Poetry. Her short fiction has appeared in many anthologies of note and she has won numerous literary awards.
