Paris, capitale de la culture irlandaise

The Centre Culturel Irlandais is delighted to host Paris: Capital of Irish Culture a Franco-Irish conference organised by Kevin Whelan and Pierre Joannon. This conference will explore the longer term influence of Paris on the evolution of Irish political and cultural thought, with the aim of showing how this influence fed into the cultural energies that underpinned the 1916 Rising and the events leading to the birth of the Irish Free State. The distinguished panel of seven speakers will discuss topics ranging from Wolfe Tone and the birth of Irish republicanism, Daniel O’Connell and Young Ireland in France, through to the diplomacy of Sinn Féin in 1919-1921 and the coverage by the French press of the Irish war of independence. The landmark 1916 documentary made by the University of Notre Dame (US), and shown on RTE television, will be screened on the final day of the conference (reservation for the film).
